Statement on terror attacks in Denmark

February 15, 2015 - Board of Deputies - Share: Twitter Facebook

Once again Jews have come under attack in Europe. In Copenhagen, Denmark, one Jewish man was killed and two policemen were wounded outside Copenhagen’s Grand Synagogue. Inside the synagogue, a Bat Mitzvah ceremony was taking place.

The synagogue attack followed an earlier murder at a cultural centre in Copenhagen where the artist Lars Vilks, who had received death threats over depictions of the Prophet Mohammed, was present. There a debate was taking place on freedom of speech in light of the recent attacks in Paris.

The Board of Deputies of British Jews condemns these attacks in the strongest possible terms. Our thoughts are with the families of all those who were killed and wounded in these shocking attacks in Denmark. We stand in solidarity with the Jewish community in Denmark and have contacted them to express our sympathy and our support.
