Welcome for confirmation of go-ahead for residential summer camps

Board of Deputies President Marie van der Zyl has responded to Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s confirmation that residential summer camps can go ahead in bubbles of 30.

Marie said: “The Board of Deputies welcomes confirmation from the Health Secretary that summer camps can go ahead in covid-secure bubbles of 30. This will help ensure some viability for the community’s residential summer camps for young people. We look forward to meeting with Department of Education officials later this week and will be looking for reassurance that if we do move forward to Step 4 – which will see nightclubs reopen for example – number limits on residential camps will also be lifted. The sector is eager to discuss what interventions can be mandated – for example pre-quarantining and testing – to make such a Step 4 allowance possible.”
