Board of Deputies team go “wild in the aisles” for Mitzvah Day
In advance of Mitzvah Day, the Board of Deputies staff team participated in a Supermarket Challenge for GIFT, a Jewish charity which delivers food parcels to families in need of assistance.
Led by GIFT’s Senior Educator Rabbi Avrohom Zeidman, the Board of Deputies staff went “wild in the aisles” in Tesco, Brent Cross, with the challenge of buying the most nutritious food possible, to feed a family of five for one week, with only ten pounds to spend.
Trollies fully laden with goods from the challenge, along with an additional donation of hundreds of cans of fish and pulses, the Board of Deputies team took their purchases to the GIFT warehouse, to help prepare them for distribution to families.
Gillian Merron, Chief Executive, said: “The Board of Deputies is proud to support social action. This year we’ve partnered with the Sikh community to support refugees and the homeless, and every year we host a Parliamentary launch for Mitzvah Day. Bringing our staff team to GIFT this week was a great way of getting hands on, learning about the poverty that exists in our community and getting our Mitzvah Day Mitzvahs in early.”
