Do you not see how partnering with Oxfam - whose commentary on Israel is persistently negative - simply encourages this kind of rubbish?

Well spotted,Jonathan.I emailed him last night to say that the cartoon was a perversion of the facts and his art.

Congratulation, on the behalf of thousands of Palestinians who were killed as a result of President Netanyahu's political gimmick. I have my total respects for the victims of the Holocaust, but please don't play that card every time you commit your atrocities on the Palestinians. Its frankly distasteful.

Anti-zionism and criticism of Israeli policies in relation to Palestinians is not anti-semitism or racism. The Board's conflation of the Scarfe cartoon with blood libel is, frankly, outrageous. And if you choose to draw a parallel with cartoons in other publications that may be racist (I don't know, I haven't seen them), that's your choice. I see nothing in Scarfe's cartoon that goes beyond legitimate caricature of a controversial figure that many people (whether you agree with them or not) believe to be responsible for the ongoing suffering of one group of people.
The Board's position does no credit to itself. Netanyahu chooses to take a robust position in relation to the Palestinains, he is big and bad enough to deal with the criticism that follows, without others invoking a spurious defence of racism.

It is clear critics have not looked at many Scarfe cartoons over the years, this is pretty mild stuff for Gerald, and, in my opinion, fair comment on Bibi Netanyahu and his mates in Likud and the Israeli right.
Regarding the Blood Libel, until about a decade ago few people in the English speaking world would have even been aware of it, whereas once Bibi and co started wheeling out the accusation every five minutes suddenly EVERYONE knew about it, the Protocols of the Elders of Zion and all that other anti-Semitic dross churned out a century ago.
Israel has an absolute right to exist, even build security walls; we have the wretched things here in Belfast too. What is not acceptable, and certainly not to be miraculously exempt from criticism is the blatant land grabs that the wall has been used to normalise.
Like Ireland in the 17th century, Palestine was not 'Terra Nullis' and just as Ireland is having to make accommodations with its past, so will Israel. It won't be easy but we pretended here that if we ignored it, were 'tough' etc. eventually the other side would see sense and give up. Well, it didn't work and compromise became unavoidable. We are still working it out but at least my kids have no concept of listening to car bombs detonating in the middle of the night as I did in the 70s and 80s.
Unfortunately in Bibi Israel has a cynical and toxic but charismatic politician who will sacrifice any principle to maintain power. Believe me, Northern Ireland teaches you how to spot them. What can make a difference is not allowing them to hide behind flags or the bodies of innocent victims.
To this day I wonder what Yoni Netanyahu would make of his little brother’s shenanigans. I believe he would have wanted better for Israel.

Please do not confuse being anti Israeli (policy) with being anti-semitic in any way shape or form - to confuse the two is disingenuous in the extreme.
Congratulations to Scarfe for saying the unsayable.
Kind regards,
Andy
